Governor Pen Portraits

Elizabeth Collins - Foundation Governor, Chair of Governors
I have been linked to St Mary & St Thomas’ for well over thirty years now, having served twice as Chair of Governors.  This was a pleasure, as well as being very hard work sometimes.  My working life was in education from teaching to inspecting and I still try to keep up to date, but things change very much more swiftly than even fifteen years ago.  I am still learning, as well as enjoying being with the children and supporting the staff and seeing both age groups grow and succeed in a warm and safe, yet challenging atmosphere.

Lyndsey Lewis - Headteacher Governor
I am thrilled to have been appointed Headteacher at St Mary& St Thomas' in September 2016. Having worked for the school for two years as Assistant Headteacher, I know what a wonderful school we have and am so excited to take the school forward and carry on the successful work of our Executive Principal.

My responsibilities include child protection, safeguarding and all aspects of pastoral care and emotional wellbeing for children and families. I manage a team consisting of teaching assistants trained as quasi-therapists offering therapeutic interventions and a family support worker responsible for attendance and early intervention family support.  I liaise extensively with outside agencies whether statutory or voluntary in seeking additional resources and support for the school. I work as a Specialist Leader of Education, advising and supporting other schools and regularly facilitate training for the St Helens Teaching School Alliance and the local authority in respect of LAC and all areas of Safeguarding to multi agencies including schools.

I am currently the Deputy Chair of the Liverpool Diocesan Board of Education and was  the Mayor of St.Helens from 2012 to 2013.

Jo-Anne Finnigan - Foundation Governor
As of January 2015, I am new to the role of Foundation Governor. Having two school aged children who attend St Mary & St Thomas’ makes me both interested in the workings of the school and keen to see how their school careers will progress in this most positive learning environment. Having previously worked as a secondary school teacher, I hope I can draw upon my experiences in education to assist in decision making. Above all, my past experience as a teacher makes me appreciate the hard work that goes on to ensure the best provision for children at St Mary & St Thomas’. I really look forward to working with staff, governors and pupils over the next 4 years and to watch our school progress and succeed.

Reverend Harry Wood
Based at St Thomas Church, I am currently interim team vicar within the St Helens Town Centre team. I served my Curacy at St Helens Parish Church, and before that worked in Engineering for some 28 years. I’m delighted to be at St Thomas Church, and equally so to be involved with St Mary and St Thomas School. I’m was born in St Helens, serving my apprenticeship at Beecham's in the town centre and I have seen the landscape of the town change over the years. I’m totally convinced that the part our schools play in the lives of young people goes beyond solely academic achievement, and I’m delighted to support staff and governors wherever possible in the immeasurably valuable work they do.
